Since the Maldives are islands surrounded mainly by warm waters of the Indian Ocean, the range of activities is naturally connected with either observing the marine life or doing various waters sports.

So for those of you who are tired of laying in the tropical sun, here is a list of activities in Maafushi Maldives:

 

 

FISHING

The native Maldivians are born fishermen, so this comes naturally as one of the things they can share with you in the first place.

Join the locals on their boats for either a day or night fishing and try your luck catching your dinner! For the lucky ones-you can ask your host to grill your fish on a barbecue.

 

SNORKELING

Check out the underwater world of the ocean's marine life by observing the colorful exotic fish, beautiful corals, sea turtles and even whale sharks (don't worry-they are harmless to humans).

 

SCUBA DIVING

Maldives are known to be one of the best diving spots on the planet. No wonder so many underwater aficionados from all over the world visit the Maldivian islands.

The warm and crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean (the water temperature never drops below 20C (68F) at the greatest depths and the visibility is almost 60 meters) create perfect conditions for the divers. See for yourself over 700 species of tropical fish and the whole richness of fauna and flora.

The Maldives offer a unique experience to see gigantic manta rays, which can be found only in tropical and subtropical climates.

 

RESORT TOURS

In case you are wondering what else to do in Maafushi, we can offer you boat day trips to neighbouring resort islands. It is legal to drink alcohol there as opposed to inhabited island such as Maafushi. 

Please remember that Maldives are a Muslim country and alcohol is prohibited everywhere except the resorts. Since 2015 there is also a possibility for foreign tourists to hop on a sailing bar near the waters of Maafushi. The tourists can have a drink there without breaking the law.

As for sunbathing, you shouldn't wear a bikini among the local people out of respect to their customs and religious beliefs. When visiting a souvenir shop or a restaurant in Maafushi, please wear decent clothing (no walking around in bathing suits or bikinis).

If you wish to do some bikini sunbathing, there is a designated beach on the island where you are free to do so.

 

BOAT TRIPS/DOLPHIN WATCHING AND OTHERS

Spend a few hours cruising around the ocean as you try to spot the dolphins alongway.

Take a trip to Picnic Island and spend a day in a family-like atmosphere on a quiet uninhabited island, where you and your hosts join together on a delicious barbecue dinner.

Naturally, Maafushi island offers you lots of waters sports for children and adults. Have fun surfing, banana riding or jet skiing among others.
